unemployment and damien rice

I am done! My White Spot/Ramada Conference career is over as of today! Just wanted to share that with you all. I am very happy to be moving on - I met tons of great people who I loved working with...but I am ready for the next steps.

On a totally unrelated note, but also to do with my happiness, I saw Damien Rice in concert two nights ago. It was an AMAZING show. I would go again in a heartbeat.

The future...at least the next year of it.

I think I'm allowed to tell you all this now that it's "official"...I have a new job for the fall!

So, two weeks after I return to Canada in August, I will start my new position as "Assistant to the Director of the Intercultural Studies Program" at CBC! (I can already hear the coughs of "lifer" coming from you all). I am excited to return to CBC in a new position...one in which I don't have to live on campus or eat caf food as a job requirement, I am excited to work with Bryan (the Director), and I am excited to have a new challenge.

In other related news, as of today, I have two weeks left of work (PTL and Amen to that.). In further related news, I would like to request your prayers for making it through the next two weeks of work. Tonight was NOT a great night, and those nights tend to make it harder to go back to work the next day.

Overall... I'm excited! (I really need to find a new word here). There's lots of changes coming up, and I'm really feeling fortunate about being in this stage of life (and VERY thankful that I am coming back from Costa Rica to a house and a job!).

Time to start packing...

The colour of my roots. Ahem.

I have to admit something silly.

Many of you will remember that a few weeks ago, I sent out an email, frustrated, as I had lost my address book, looking for your help to fill a new one with your information. I thank you for sending me that information. I still haven't found that address book.

So, the other night, I was thinking, "I should study some Spanish". I grabbed a notebook and headed to the computer to look up some online tutorials. As I found what I was looking for online, I opened the notebook to start writing stuff down. As I looked down at the open pages, I started laughing. My face was red.

For you see, my fair friends, about, oh, three months ago, I decided that my address book was getting old, out of date, and rather messy. I pulled out a notebook, and transferred all my addresses into this notebook, thinking it could double well as a new address book. I then proceeded to throw out my address book...it had served its purpose well.

Ahem.

Funny how we can put these things right out of our minds. And I spent hours, just three weeks ago, looking for that old address book. Frustrated.

Guess I should have left myself a note.

splish-splash

Last night, Kelly and I came home from visiting with a friend, around, oh, 11pm, and upon walking in the door and turning the corner, I realized that we had a problem. Water was pouring from the ceiling in our bathroom - our floor was flooded, and it was quickly seeping through the carpet in the hallway...not to mention pouring through the electrical ceiling fan, which I quickly turned off.

So...thankful that the flooding was not our fault (let's be honest, here), Kelly phoned upstairs, and got ahold of the landlords' 16 year old daughter, who quickly ran into their laundry room (right above our bathroom), and saw that her 11 year old brother had "made a mistake"...whatever that was...the consequence of which was the torrential downpour in our bathroom.

I have to admit, it was a funny moment. Not too cool for those lovely walls of ours, or for the kids upstairs (whose parents weren't home!), but as we laid down towels and buckets (honestly, it was a downpour), I couldn't help but just laugh.

Some moments simply merit a good chuckle.

(and why do i forget to take pictures of these moments?)
